Welcome to Maggie and Jean

Maggie and Jean

Are you wondering if you’ll ever see your waist again?

Or are you like us and proud to have people pat your finally firm tummy without having to hold your muscles tight?

Regardless, we’d like to assure you that there will be clothes to flatter your ever evolving figure. The key to looking good is recognising what do you want to emphasise and what would you rather people didn’t notice?

This is very easily achieved by the clever use of optical illusions. The golden rule, whatever your body type, is that our eye travels slowly on a horizontal line and more quickly on a vertical line. What does that mean though?

You are more likely to take more notice of something that lies on the horizontal line. Therefore, if you’ve got wider hips the last place you want to draw attention to is just below your bottom.

Conversely, you may like to create a vertical emphasis, perhaps with buttons, stripes or vertical detail on an area you’d like to gloss over – perhaps a large bust. You should carefully consider your body shape and establish which areas you want to enhance and which areas you want to play down. One other area you have control of whilst your shape changes is scale.

This is important when you consider jewellery, bags, buttons, stitching, heel height and width, weight of fabric, size and complexity of print etc. It is essential to dress in harmony with your scale e.g. if as a large person you surround yourself with objects that are too small or fussy you will make yourself look much bigger than you actually are. Equally, if you are petite you should not accessorise with large bold items as they will swamp you.

We really do understand what it is like to be heavily pregnant and feel like you’ve swallowed the sofa. Be encouraged that the details really do matter. Take time and use your accessories carefully to maintain a fashionable look without making major purchases. Pay attention to your nails, hair and skin.

Use colour to elongate those areas that appear heavy and wide and create focal points around your face and neckline. Above all be comfortable and confident. For more information go to: www.clelandmcknight.com
